Year 2

Weekly Update - Friday 12th December 2025

We are so proud of the Year 2 children this week. They sang their hearts out, learnt the Makaton signs for many of the songs and ultimately put on a great Christmas production.

A Summary of our learning:

In Maths, we continued to measure length in cm and m and compare the lengths of items. We ended the week with word problems linked to addition and subtraction of length.

In English, we planned our innovate stage of ‘Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk’. We then spent the week writing it up and edited it on Friday. It has been wonderful to see the children independently use possessive apostrophes within their portal story.

 Our learning next week:

Maths

We will continue to learn about length, applying it to word problems and also consolidate our learning so far this term.

English

We will plan our hot task linked to our portal story of ‘Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk’ and write their story later in the week.

Reading

Your children will continue to read with an adult in their reading groups. Our whole class reading text will focus on a range of skills, including retrieval, inference, word meanings and prosody.

Foundation:

In Computing, we will learn about debugging.

In PSHE, we will discuss some ways I am different from my friends and understand that these differences make us all special and unique.

In Science, we start our new unit on ‘sustainability’ by learning that some plastic can be recycled, and some cannot. We will also repurpose a single use plastic item.

In PE, Coaches will teach rugby on a Tuesday.

 Homework:

Maths

Maths homework will be sent home every Friday and can be handed in from the Monday.

Numbots/ TTRockstars

To be played at least 3-4 times per week for a maximum of 15 minutes per session. The log in details are the same as those your child received in Reception/ Year 1. If you require them again, please do let your class teacher know.

Spelling

Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.

Reading

Please read with your child five times a week and write in their reading record.

Notices & Reminders:

Please ensure that your child has a named coat in school, as children go outside in all weathers.

Please provide your child with a piece of clear recyclable plastic (plastic water bottle, flower pot, take away container). If possible please can the items be brought in by Tuesday to ensure everyone has an item ready for Wednesday’s lesson.

A gentle reminder that the Christmas Fair is taking place on Monday during the school day. Please send your child into school with a named purse and they are welcome to wear Christmas themed clothes.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Hodgson, Mrs Thornton- Brown, Mrs Harding and Mrs Offer.
