Year 2

Weekly Update - Friday 28th November 2025

A Summary of our learning:

We have had a wonderful week in Year 2. On Monday, the children dressed up as superheroes and planned their own non-chronological report based on them as a superhero. We have written our own non-chronological reports, edited them and finally published them in our special publishing books.

In Maths, we have finished our unit on ‘Multiplication and division’. Your child/ children can now login to Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS) and practise their multiplication and division. The login details are the same as their Numbots account.

In Science, we investigated metal and learnt that metal can be rigid or flexible. We looked at shiny and dull metal items within our learning environment.

 Our learning next week:

Maths

We start our new unit on length. We will then learn how to measure in Metres (M) and Centimetres (CM).

English

We start our new learning journey based on Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk’. We will learn our new talk story and the key elements of the text. We will then box up the narrative into the 5 parts and learn about possessive apostrophes.

Reading

Your children will continue to read with an adult in their reading groups. We have just started to introduce whole class reading lessons. Our text is based on The Three Billy Goats Gruff’.

Foundation:

In DT, the children will finish their chair and evaluate its strength, stiffness and stability.

In Computing, we will plan an algorithm that will solve problems in our game.

In PSHE, we will understand when and how to stand up for myself and others and how to get help if I am being bullied.

In RE, we will be able to explain how we could help people in the world by showing love.

In History, we will consolidate our learning of Florence Nightingale and be able to explain why we commemorate her.

In Science, we will be able to explain why materials are best for certain purposes using their knowledge of their properties.

In PE, Coaches will teach rugby on a Tuesday and Class Teachers will teach dance on a Thursday.

 Homework:

Maths

Maths homework will be sent home every Friday and can be handed in from the Monday.
