Year 2

Weekly Update - Friday 10th October 2025

A Summary of our learning:

What a fabulous week we have had in Year 2, from following the instructions to make an apple crumble, to investigating local weather conditions and finishing off our ‘Map it out’ art unit.

In English, we planned our innovate of ‘How to make a ____________ crumble’ and started to write our instructions up.

In Maths, we finished off our unit on subtraction and started to look at multiplication. We began to understand that multiplication is the same as repeated addition of equal groups.

In Science, we learnt about healthy diets and healthy/ unhealthy food choices. We also designed a healthy packed lunch.

Our learning next week:

Maths	We will be learning to recall and use the 2, 5 and 10 times table. At the end the week, your child will complete a times table fun quiz.
English	We will start the week off by planning our own set of instructions and over the week we will write our own instructions up. At the end of the week, we will publish our instructions using our best handwriting.
Reading	Your children will continue to read with an adult in their reading groups. We will inform you when we start to introduce whole class reading lessons.

Foundation:

In Art, we will share and evaluate our artwork with our peers

In Computing, we will be able to explain where computers are used, what their jobs are and how computers work together.

In Music, we will finish off the unit ‘pulse, rhythm and pitch’.

In PSHE, we will recognise the choices we make and understand the consequences of those choices.
In RE, we will be able to say why kindness is important and think of ways to show kindness.

In Science, we will be looking at teeth and the importance of brushing our teeth.

In PE, we will be doing Dance and Football with the PE Coaches.

Homework:

Maths

Maths homework will be sent home every Friday and can be handed in from the Monday.

Numbots

Numbots to be played at least 3-4 times per week for a maximum of 15 minutes per session. The log in details are the same as those your child received in Reception/ Year 1. If you require them again, please do let your class teacher know.

Spelling

Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.

Reading

Please read with your child five times a week and write in their reading record.

Just a reminder that children should not bring any toys into school, as we don’t want these going missing, or distracting our learning. Thank you for your support with this!

If you provide your child with grapes to consume during the school day, please ensure these are cut in half, length ways to minimise the chocking risk.
